“You’ll be going home,” Seonwoo assures him. “I’d rather die than spend the rest of my long life looking after someone like you,” he comments, shaking his head as he walks back towards the door. “It won’t be long before you go home, Your Highness. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it.”
“I’m not,” Jake replies, looking out the window of his tower. His room is at the very tippy top of a tower of a now crumbling castle, an old stronghold in the deepest parts of a dense, dark wood forest. He’s several days away from his bedroom, cast into these crumbling ruins to live out as many days as is necessary for someone to come rescue him from his solitude. The waters that lap at the edge of the ruins are thick with mangrove tree roots and marshy plant life. His tower is the last remaining tower among the stronghold, the buildings beneath hidden in the shadows of the conifers and thick, dark wood trees that surround them. From here he can look out past the trees and the waters, the river that leads out past the marsh headed for the sparkling capital that mocks him now. “I know I won’t be going anywhere,” he says, darkly.
