"Ah," Yumeko said, looking at the car and then down at their joined hands. A shadow of genuine reluctance crossed her face. "Your carriage awaits, Cinderella. Back to the palace."
Kira felt a heavy, sinking pang of disappointment in her chest. She slowly let go of Yumeko's hand, feeling the immediate, freezing loss of warmth. She stood up, smoothing down her coat and grabbing her bag, suddenly feeling very exposed.
"Yumeko," Kira said, turning back around before she stepped out into the downpour. "I don't even have your number. My phone is completely dead."
Yumeko smiled, that brilliant, unforgettable, chaotic grin. She reached into her backpack, grabbed Kira's damp notebook from earlier, and ripped out a small corner of a page.

“Yunjin! You need to relax, this isn’t as serious as you’re making it out to be!” Eunchae’s voice rings out, clearly panicked.
The girl in question yells back twice or maybe three times as loud. “Eunchae—! This is as serious as it gets; it doesn’t make any fucking sense for it to be like that. It just doesn’t make any sense! Why can’t it just tell us what it is! Why can’t the government explain!” She hears Yunjin knock something over. “My source? Just trust me, bro.”
“I’m home…” She ekks out.
It’s only a second before Yunjin rounds the corner holding a cardboard box. “You! You can help me! You need to help me prove Eunchae wrong.”
Her world gets very small when Yunjin shoves the cardboard centimeters from her face. “Birthday cake flavor shouldn’t exist. Birthday cake can be any flavor. So—! What fucking flavor is birthday cake?”
Kazuha backs up before looking at the cardboard. It’s a cake mix that happens to be birthday cake flavor. “Birthday cake flavor is just birthday cake; it’s its own flavor, like funfetti cake. It’s jus’ cake with, like, fucking sprinkles, I dunno. Why are we talking about this?"
