Summary
Buck had been working at the 118 for 7 months now and his husband had been deployed for 11 excruciating months. Eddie only got so much time to call and Buck gave all of that time to Christopher. Instead Eddie and Buck communicated through old fashioned letters.
Buck wrote his weekly letter to Eddie and after his shift he sent the letter hoping he’d get a response soon. After a week the worry started to creep into every blood vessel in his body. But still Buck wrote another letter and sent it off.
Or Buck is trying to get through this last month of Eddie’s deployment when he goes radio silent. The 118 can tell something is up with their newest recruit but don’t know what until a dreaded phone call.

Running until his lungs burn and it hurts to breathe, he slows down and stares at his view of L.A. Not mesmerizing or happily or sadly, just staring painfully.

And yeah, Shane knew that Ilya hadn’t been okay last time he was in Russia, but Ilya had had the very real excuse of a funeral to blame things on. Ilya had downplayed it as much as he could, and Shane hadn’t been there, he’d heard the fatigue and he’d seen Ilya’s tired smile, but he hadn’t felt the way Ilya’s hands were cold the entire time he was there, hadn’t seen through the screen the way Ilya dropped eight pounds in three weeks, hadn’t kept time when there were twenty hours in Ilya’s day instead of something closer to sixteen. Or, on the flip side, for the week or two after, when there had been approximately ten conscious hours in a day.
It was one thing to see something. It was another to feel it in your hands.
Ilya and Shane are so, so happy for their first year married. They’re playing in Ottawa together, they’re fucking winning, they’re together and out.
So now, after a year, Ilya should be fine. He should be great. He should not be flinching at small noises or nearly punching people off the clock or feeling like he’s drowning whenever he’s not on the ice.

“Good, well then that brings me to the real topic of conversation.” Another sigh from Coach Wiebe, “As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, those highlighted names have been offered rookie contracts and they’ve each expressed interest in living with a vet for their first year.”
Ilya felt his heart fall into his stomach, afraid of the next words to come out of his Coach’s mouth.
“We asked the rookies who they’d like to live with and, well, LaPointe wanted to board with you, Chouinard. And Young with you, Bood,” Wiebe then turned to Ilya who had frozen on the spot, “And Roz, Haas wants to live with you.”
Bood and Chouinard chuckled as they watched Ilya’s eyes widen in horror.

Luca Haas was drafted 2nd overall by the Ottawa Centaurs in 2018. Two years later, he anxiously moved halfway across the world to play his rookie season with the team. He requested to live with Ilya Rozanov and they slowly became family.

Summary
Yuna might be a bit vindictive. But Rozanov is an asshole — even Shane admits it. He insults everyone all the time. Right now, it’s Yuna’s turn.
“Licking your wounds, Rozanov?” He turns slightly.
“Licking — what?” His accent is stronger than she thought it would be. Yuna realizes they’ve never really had a conversation. Maybe an idiom wasn’t the right choice for a chirp.
“Thinking about your losses,” Yuna clarifies. Does an insult lose power if you have to explain it? Probably. Damn.
“Ah.” Rozanov turns his head back to look out at the city. He sounds bored. It pisses Yuna off more than it probably should. Which is dumb, since she’s the one who came all the way out here just to start something because she hates this boy, this brash, cocky asshole who everyone uses as a measuring stick for her son.
or, Yuna decides to chirp her son's rival after the NHL awards. It goes really, really well. Definitely no one cries. (Be warned, this one is sad, y'all.)
