Summary
In the Red Room, Natasha realises that despite her graduation ceremony, the secrets kept with her Winter Soldier have resulted in a pregnancy, and the last thing she wants is their child in Dreykov's hands. Running is not something that had ever crossed their minds before, but they did anyway, though they weren’t stupid enough to think that they could actually escape. They just needed enough time. She gave birth and he took the baby to a safe place, then they were captured, separated, tortured, and wiped clean.
Natasha is determined to keep her daughter safe, but she can’t do that being who she is, she needed, needed to be better, someone worthy, someone she could stand to look in the mirror.
So she builds a new life for herself, and finds friends and love and family. She’s finally at peace with herself, somewhat.
And then Yasha comes back.

In the grand scheme, Natasha's life was a small price to pay to bring back the billions of lives lost. She wanted her friends back. She wanted her sister back. She could only hope Yelena would forgive her for dying in the process.
Of course, she didn’t tell Clint, or anyone else for that matter, what she planned to do. She knew they’d all try to talk her out of it. Her eyes slid over to Steve, who was staring at her with curiosity in his gaze. He tilted his head to the side, and she briefly wondered if he somehow knew.
God, she wanted to tell Steve most of all. She wanted to say a proper goodbye. Instead, she flashed him a small smile and said, “See you in a minute.”
The corner of his mouth quirked up, and then they were gone.
