Summary
Daniel was born in a cruel, soulless, and such an empty minded country. So at his short age he already felt lonely in this world. He grew up in an addicted household, his father a drunk and his mother a drug addict. It was highly unlikely that he wouldn't end up in one of those situations, so he ended up being a drug addict and studying journalism after his mother's death and getting rid of his father. The only thing that keeps him going is the coke and interviewing people.
This boy had been through a lot and his life is only a roulette of traumatic events. For his bad luck he is sort of kidnapped by a vampire one night and the next morning he wakes up at a drug den. He doesn't remember too much of the interview, the only thing he can recall are those eyes. Orange gorgeous predator eyes.
One night searching for drugs and fun he finds those eyes lurking him and the prey falls in love with the predator.
This is just the beginning of the miserable life that awaits poor Daniel and his inmortal lover.[This work was written prior to the release of Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire. Any differences from canon are intentional.]

There it was. That hollow feeling inside of his chest like his heart had disappeared entirely. Everything seemed to go still. It was a phantom ache. It happened with his missing eye on occasion. It wasn't real. It was the frayed nerve endings of a missing limb and the faulty signals they were sending to his brain.
Daniel was gone and it was as though Armand had cut off his hand with Nicki's axe.
Daniel was never coming back.
Then…footsteps.
Or: Post-Akasha reunion fic…maybe…if a person with the wrong face and wrong voice and wrong body can convince Armand that's what's happening. Good thing Armand has no trust issues whatsoever and is used to good things happening to him.

It's halfway through the second reading when he realizes few members of the audience are listening. What's the point in attending mass? Does it provide their short lives of meaning, if there's one at all?

Beautiful eyes. Are they orange…? No, it must be the candlelight.
The voice of a man. Armand's eyes roam around the church to find the owner of that thought. Where is he? The farmer next to him? No. The young man holding the Bible open? It's not him either. The priest is about to begin the reading of the gospel and Armand's eyes fall to the center of the altar.
Yes, they're actually orange. Absolutely stunning.
The priest is looking directly at him.

Armand huffs. “Fine. If you insist.”
“Oh?” Daniel grins, wraps his arms around him. “Is that what this is? Want me to whine a bit, demand your attention?”
Armand purses his lips, eyelashes fanning out as his eyes dip away; busted. Jesus, Daniel adores this asshole.
“Yes, perhaps a little.”
“You got it. Hey, time for a quickie before science calls?”
Armand makes a show of glancing at the bedside clock; he should be out the door in all of thirteen minutes.
“Let’s see, shall we,” he says, and rolls Daniel onto his back.
Or: Daniel does his level best to make Armand late for a meeting; horny derailment ensues.
