Summary
In the expanse of frozen spires outstretched to the sky, painted golden and purple against glimmering ice, stars begin to unravel beneath the depths of glaciers. Something awakens, something returns anew, piercing the inky darkness of the sea to emerge from ice. A loud 'plunk' reverberates into the usually silent expanse, followed by the whistles and echoes of cracks forming in the ice. Sheets shift and slough off into water, others splinter and shatter against nearby spires. Dawn is born once again, and with the rising sun, a singular pale hand grasps onto slippery ice, leveraging enough grip to pull itself out. A pale woman hoists herself onto the ice, barren for all but a skin covering her shoulders, pelted in fine mousy fur.
The sound of splintering ice travels across the vast solid sea, reaching to the ominous thicket of spruce neighboring the ocean. A figure clad in black pauses, staring hard towards the endless ice from beneath a dark hood. Through countless days and nights of travel without civilization, finally something has warranted his attention, something to disrupt the deafening silence. And so he steps out from the shadowed forest onto the frozen shoreline.

Stelle yearns, because Sampo is always there but never is all at once. The breath down her neck, the ghost on her back—yet, somehow, still out of reach, like sand between her fingers.
