Olruggio immediately shakes off the thought. As if Qifrey drinks more than a glass or two, and even then, he would nurse it for hours. There has to be another reason, a sickness, an injury. Some forbidden magic during a scuffle with the Brimmed Caps.
Qifrey’s head plops onto his shoulder, and Olruggio stiffens. “How do you do this every Silver Eve?” he groans. “Every time I look up, the room is moving about.”
“Aye…well…” his voice trails off.
Brilliant. Just fantastically, horribly, terribly brilliant.

Before Loid's brain can catch up, the words tumble out, “You’re more than enough.”
“How are you so sure?”
Loid gently turns Yor’s hand over so that her palm faces up. He traces her hand with his thumb as softly as he can muster. A part of his ministrations comes from practice. Some of it feels like a genuine act of comfort. Twilight or Loid, it doesn’t matter. He tries to convey what words can’t: his apology, his fear, and the care he has for her in a single action. He kisses her inner wrist. It’s soft and fleeting against his lips. “Because you’re you. And that’s a beautiful thing to be.”
It scares him how easily he falls into these cloying, tender habits. And yet, Yor looks at him like he’s the kindest man she knows.

Summary
Who had decided to be so cruel as to offer him this—an imitation of the body he should have had, only for it to be fleeting? To rip it from his hands in the same breath?
(Qifrey thinks it must be some type of retribution. To be given something only for it to be taken away is a cruelty he knows well enough to inflict; a hat and a glyph, a glyph and a hat.)
Qifrey does not expect his rut to return so soon, rare as it is.

Your prose and back and forth of adjectives like “ugly” and “need” blended together in wants and the desperate pain of not being able to experience them go so well together. The inner monologue is phenomenal. Never stop writing, this work is stunning and heartfelt. <3

He takes another step back. "We don't have any music."
"We don't need music to dance," Olruggio remarks, reaching out and grabbing the lantern out of his hand. He settles it against the ruined foundation of the hut before turning back and gently taking Qifrey's hand into his own. "Just a little bit, okay?"
(Or—graduation looms over them. Olruggio doesn't let Qifrey get out of celebrating. Nights like this never end well.)
