“Rhaenyra,” Alicent’s voice was a sharp hiss, though she kept it hushed so as not to wake the keep. “What... what are you doing here?”
The princess stepped lightly into the room, closing the door behind her. She moved with the ease of one who belonged, her bare feet making no sound on the stone. Rhaenyra was dressed in a simple nightgown, its pale silk clinging to her form, flowing as she walked. She made no effort to disguise her presence, nor to apologize for the intrusion. “I could not sleep,” she said simply. “I thought I might offer you some company.”
“Company?” Alicent repeated, the word foreign on her tongue as she stared at Rhaenyra. She felt exposed, scandalized, and her cheeks flushed with it. “You should not be here. It is improper.”

Summary
When words of the Greens’ attempt at a coup reaches her ears, Rhaenyra does not listen to reason. She reunites her strongest allies and flies for King's Landing with fire as her shield and spear. It is perhaps by chance or simple fate that she arrives just in time to seize the throne before it can be stolen from her heritage, the traitorous side of her house fleeing to Oldtown when Aegon is brought to the Keep only after their plans have been crushed.
A month passes, and their side convinces small folks to rebel more than the black council had first hoped. Hiding unattainable in a tower, locked in the continent's richest city, there is little left for them to do than pray for the Greens to betray themselves.
All seems to point toward the direction of war - that is, until the Dowager Queen is captured and brought kneeling to her throne.

Alicent becomes Rhaenyra's prisoner, held captive in the dungeons as a valuable pawn in a war that can still be avoided. Being reunited with her first love, however, will cause more disturbance than the crown initially thought - a situation worsened by their souls slowly latching further onto one another.

"You just let them take her!" Jon's the first to shout.
"Why aren't you out searching for her now?" Arya's shout hurts the most.
"Answer!" Jon shouts again.
Daenerys stands from her seat. The action terrifying. It rattles the entire Great Hall. The entire Red keep. "I did not let them take her. I was tricked. I will burn villages to the ground. I will break open the world. I will raise a new army of the undead if I must. I will do everything in my power and more to get her back. To get them both back! I swear to the old gods and the new, to the Lord of Light, to any fucking person who hears me, that I will not stop until the woman I love is back to me. I will defy gods if I must, but I will save her."

“Yes, he’s mine. Now come back down here, Drogon!” The girl scolded. She looked back over at Sansa. “I’m so sorry for him, he doesn’t listen very well.”
“He didn’t make any trouble,” Sansa waved it off. She nudged Drogon’s back and tipped him off the balcony, him squealing in indignance as he opened his wings and spiralled down to the girl. She made a hasty departure, waving back at Sansa as she fled into the surrounding city.Or alternatively, a princess and a street girl just can't stop seeking each other out.
