“Tommy!” A voice cried, his body shaken by unfamiliar hands, and the blond’s eyes flew open in alarm, fist already swinging out of instinct to collide with flesh and bone, crunching beneath the blow.
He was on his feet before he could even register himself moving, the reflexes of a soldier who was torn from the relief of sleep by the thrum of bombs in the distance, but he tripped after the second step, balance off and horribly, gut-wrenchingly wrong.
He sucked in a breath, finally looked up, and stared at the sight of a mirror, the reflection violently startling. Whoever lied before him was a stranger, because it certainly could not be him; lacking scars, limbs intact, and about seven years old, the child reflected back at him was certainly not Tommy.
It couldn’t be, because that face had been long lost to the tragedy of time.
