Summary
In the first years of sobriety, addicts do not so much as turn in the direction of their poison.
Nut’s poison was never a drink or a pill. It was a person. A nameless boy he saw in his dreams every night, someone he could never break free from. It made no sense, it held no meaning, it was just a sharp tug inside his chest every time he felt it was too exhausting to live. When the drugs couldn't make him forget, and he thought of standing on the rooftop, he would feel the tug like a reminder to fall asleep and see this person. Just to stop for one night and breathe. Sometimes Nut drank only to dream of the boy he never knew. To forget everything.
The boy wasn’t real. He was just a fractured piece of his own mind trying to keep him alive. He was no one until Nut saw him standing across the street. Real. Breathing. Human. And Nut had to know. He had to know what this was. He had to chase the meaning behind all of this and keep the boy outside of dreams, where he could finally be real. Because if this boy exists outside of dreams, then maybe there’s meaning in all of this after all.
So Nut will run, chase, fight, and worship, all to find the name of the person who has been trying to stop him from ruining himself.
