Jinshi, the crown prince, swims to shore in search of an alchemist who can unravel its secret. Maomao, an apothecary and alchemist, agrees to help—partly out of curiosity, partly because she finds it strangely impossible to walk away from this merman. But the deeper they delve into the mystery, the clearer it becomes: the Silver Plague is no accident. It is a trace.

    A trace of something that happened twenty years ago.
