I am meant to be meeting Hollander for a Foundation thing. Okay to invite him? More fun at yours instead of boring fancy restaurant?
“Ilya,” he says, deliberately choosing the correct pronunciation instead of the bastardized americanization everyone else uses. The one he pretends to use, in public. Then in Russian, slowly to make sure he’s getting the words right, “This man doesn’t believe you’re my fiancé.”
Everyone is staring at them. Troy has sat up straight, Wyatt is standing up, Shane has never seen so many mouths literally dropped open.
“Hello Centaurs,” Ilya says, his face threatening to split in two he’s smiling so wide. “I would like you to meet my fiancé. Captain of the Metros, three time Stanley Cup winner, and 2009 rookie of the year: Shane Hollander.”

Summary
Shane stared up at the ceiling. Everything he’d been keeping inside for the last month was threatening to boil over into a ugly mess, and his eyes stung. “I thought that if I could just ignore it, it would go away. I thought that if I gave it more time, I’d keep myself from doing something drastic.”
He rubbed at his face and kept his hands there, a shield to protect him from the weight of the decision he couldn’t keep running from. “It’s been weeks, and I don’t know what to do. I feel sick every time I think about going back, but…” He looked at Ilya and saw the blue eyes there creased with concern, sadness, and that simmering anger at everything that had ever hurt Shane. He sniffed. “I don’t think I’m strong enough to leave. Leaving feels like giving up. But so does staying.”
“No.” Ilya shook his head and shuffled forward so his body was mirroring Shane’s, twin parentheses encompassing their shared years in between worn bodies. “No, my love.”
Or: After the playoffs end for Montreal and Ottawa, Shane has a decision to make. His relationship with the Metros is on thin ice, and it might take a couple Centaurs to break it for good.

“Can we finally talk about this?” Harris blurted out, and Shane felt his entire body tense until Harris continued: “They’re fucking adorable. I’m going to vomit.”
“This just leaked from Montreal: Shane Hollander considering free agency after eleven seasons with the Metros. It’s not hard to guess why; my guess is locker room issues in the wake of the NHL’s biggest scandal right now: BradGate.”

“So… I’m gay,” Henry blurted out.
Alex raised his eyebrows. After a beat of silence, he said: “That’s cool. Thanks for telling me. I guess you’re not out?”
“Pez and my family know,” Henry shrugged. “But I haven’t exactly been advertising it.”
“Okay,” Alex nodded. “Well, I won’t talk, in case you were worried.”
“I wasn’t,” Henry said quickly. “But… the reason I’m telling you is... “ he took a deep breath and just went for it. “I’ve sort of liked you. For a long time.”
Alex just stared at him, eyes wide. Henry didn’t know if that was a good or a bad sign.
“And I hope I’m not making things too awkward, but… I wanted you to know? I mean, I’m perfectly happy being friends. If you still want that. But if there’s any way you’d be interested… Well, I just… wanted you to know…” he trailed off, rather lamely.
Alex licked his lips and blew out a breath. His eyes flicked down to the table and back to Henry.
“Sorry,” Henry sighed. “I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“No!” Alex said quickly. “That was damn brave! Just… give me a moment to process, okay? I didn’t expect it.”
Henry nodded. He wanted to stand up and pace, but that would have been weird, so he forced himself to sit still and not fidget as Alex sorted through whatever needed sorting in his head. When his eyes finally met Henry’s again, his gaze was pensive.
“I never really thought about whether or not I could be into guys,” he shrugged, a bit sheepishly. “I mean, the thought occurred to me every now and then, but I always sort of assumed I was straight because I never felt strongly enough about one boy to make me doubt my sexuality.” He chewed on his lip before continuing. “But I kind of feel drawn to you? I can’t explain, but I like being around you. So let’s try this. Let’s go on a date and see where this goes.” -

Summary
Henry Fox came to New York for a fresh start — a new city, a new chapter, and his five-year-old son Jamie’s hand in his. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan. Especially when it didn’t work out the first time by any means.
Jamie had been obsessed with Alex Claremont-Diaz since the first night in New York when he was introduced to American football. Leave it to Pez to get them on the field to meet him.
What Henry doesn’t expect is the way Alex looks at both of them — like they’re something worth keeping.
