Her bottom lip, pulled taut between her teeth, fascinated like she was when she caught sight of “fix” on her wrist. Her pupils track over her in haste.

    She looks awed.

    “You’re so pretty,” Camille hears, and it takes her a minute to register that those are the words coming from Amma’s mouth. While she looks at her — like this. She feels the color drain from her face. “Do you think I’ll ever be as pretty as you?”

    Fuck off. Get out. These are the things Camille should say. “You are pretty,” she says, and then, “what the hell?”

    or, alternatively— the one where amma comes back to the dress shop and ruins everything.
