At a very young age, Gen found that he could see something no one else could: Single threads of gold tying one person to another.
It wasn’t until he really got into reading (around when he turned 9) that he discovered the term soulmates. At the time, he found the term so poetic. He looked up anything and everything about them. He was quick to discover that soulmates can work in many ways. Some have matching tattoos, switch bodies, hear what song the other person is listening to, or, in many cases, are connected by a ‘red string of fate’. He was also quick to discover that soulmates were not only rare but also complete and utter fiction.
Bullshit.

Summary
SPOILERS for Season 4 ep 9 of Dr. Stone!
Gunshot wounds are dangerous. Gunshot wounds to the chest are downright lethal. The thorax is packed with vital structures, heart, lungs, and more blood vessels than anyone wants to count. So when Senku takes a bullet, he does the math. Odds of survival? Not good. Depressingly low actually, especially with the amount of blood he’s choking on.
But science isn’t about taking the easy way out. And Senku has never been a quitter.
OR
I completely redo everything medical wise that happens after Senku gets shot, because if Dr. Stone prides itself on science, then gunshot wounds deserve the same treatment.

Summary
Although the two worked perfectly well in tandem, they were never truly sure they properly understood one another more than in strategy's terms.
While Gen could tell whenever Senku was plotting a perfect scientific scheme of the ages, he could never truly tell how the science prodigy felt outside of it. While Senku knew Gen's efficiencies in magic and psychology had proved extremely useful, time and time again; he could never tell just how he truly felt about their progress.
All they knew was that they worked in perfect tandem. All the same, that still didn't feel like enough to either of them.
Especially not after every tragedy they'd been forced to suppress their true feelings on.
(aka sengen realizes their romantic feelings while adjusting to their own mental health, in the middle of preparing to go to the moon.)
