Shane Hollander loves playing for the Ottawa Centaurs. Leaving Montreal, as painful as it had been, really has been one of the best decisions he’s ever made.
He gets to play with his husband. He’s supported at all levels, from upper management down to the most casual of fans, and his teammates are genuinely kind and lovely people who care about him and his life and are invested in his well-being.
Considering where he came from, Shane thinks it’s wonderful to work with such caring players who want what’s best for him and notice things about his life. It's really, really great.
Until it isn’t, of course.

Finally, it's the third weekend after their wedding and they have no where they have to go. No party, no meeting, no dinner, no club. Just some soft time at home with their baby, Anya. And of course, in this peaceful moment, Hayden appeared in their door, pissing Ilya off.
A phone call interrupts their bickering and Ilya gets possibly one of the saddest news of his life. He is officially the last Rozanov alive from his childhood family. He shocks himself when instead of screaming and making scenes, he ends up quietly grieving in Hayden's arms.
No plot twists, no sudden loss or deaths, just a sweet few moments between Ilya losing his biological brother and finally coming to terms with the fact that he has had a brother by his side the entire time. Shane tries his best to help him but there is only so much he can do, he doesn't and will never fully understand how Ilya feels everyday of his life. After his official diagnosis, Ilya gets prescribed antidepressants. This only makes him feel more broken.
After another victorious win against the Metros Ilya finds himself outside the bar where the team went to celebrate. Trying to dance and sing and enjoy himself inside with his team is difficult when all he can focus on is how numb he feels and has felt. Ilya has never been the vulnerable type who speaks ever thought he has.
So when a surprising guest shows up next to him, telling him his entire story, Ilya can't help but listen and share. Maybe he can finally have someone who fully understand what it's like, someone who made it out to the other side.
and who knows, he could find a brother in that man.
