    Summary

In truth, Dan Heng does not remember much beyond the past few months, and even recent events require monumental effort to maintain in the warped archives of his mind.

One of his earliest memories is with his physician, a young woman with dark hair, and red hands kept underneath red gloves. A Vidyadhara in hiding, like himself.

"I propose a living arrangement with another patient," she says.

Death and rebirth, memories and mara, flowers and everything else in between. An experimental Modern AU written for JingHeng Week 2026! Other tags/warnings will be added as needed in Author's Notes.

    Summary

“I apologize, but you need to undress,” Jing Yuan says. He keeps his hands behind his back like he’s afraid of them jumping out somehow.

Blade doesn’t think of the implications; that the person in front of him, someone who is practically a stranger, requested of him something so uncouth. There was a point of living where shame no longer mattered. He only wishes the stench of iron and the clumps of blood clinging to his every crevice would dissipate.

Even if Blade tried to undress, his hands wouldn’t let him. Nerves lay forever damaged in his fingers, causing his numb hands to shake and feebly grasp at the stained fabrics around his chest. The weight of seven centuries engulfs him in its exhausting embrace.

    “Help me, then,” Blade requests.

Blade gives Jing Yuan an unconventional visit after a mission gone wrong. Remembering too much or nothing at all— what is worse?

    Summary

The man who stands in the doorframe has the look of the untamed wild about him. He’s tall, well-muscled, with a cascade of rich, dark hair that splits and pours down his shoulders. He is, Dan Heng thinks, beautiful, if in a strange, primal way. And yet the stench of decay clings to him, the pungent commingling of blood and rot. Has he just come from killing? His shattered sword caressing Jing Yuan’s throat bears no bloodstains, and Dan Heng didn’t hear any of the manor’s guards raise the alarm.

It doesn’t matter. If nothing else, Dan Heng knows that this man is dangerous.

    ———

A break-in at Jing Yuan’s manor harbingers a past Dan Heng can’t escape from.

    Summary

The entity sits at the foot of the bed, and it’s like Dan Heng is ten years old again, too tired to stay awake any longer but too scared to step foot in his own bedroom. His eyes are red, in a shade that doesn’t catch the light because there’s nothing to catch onto, but the glow remains as if they were backlit from the inside. A furnace, a death ray, heat that burns if he looks at it too long.

“Ren,” Dan Heng greets like deliverance.

ALT: Dan Heng returns to his childhood home. The thing inside wants him out. Too bad--He's not going anywhere.
