Summary
Background to this fic: It's set a few months after the season 3 finale. After Will and Hannibal survived the fall, they came to an understanding about the future, including accepting their feelings for one another; they are a couple, and still lying low from the police. They made their way to France with fake identities set up by Hannibal, and have been living together quietly in Marseille.
They decide to indulge on a rare evening out, to a high-society restaurant (as if Hannibal could resist evening dining out in France.) One of the waiters appears to take a shine to Will, which Will plays on just for fun, to try and get a rise out of his ever-unflappable beloved; his game changes however into a suggestion which both stuns and delights Hannibal. The murder husbands are finally at work, and of course, at play.

Summary
Hannibal Lecter knew his mind well. Or at least he thought he did. But recent regret over killing his not-patient has him thinking otherwise.
Set vaguely in Season 1, Hannibal Lecter decides instead of winding him up and watching him go, it's far more prudent to kill Will Graham.
This comes back to bite him in the ass. Or stab him in the chest, as it were.

Summary
It's true that originally Hannibal had had no intention of interacting with Will Graham besides toying with him for the small pleasure it would bring him before Hannibal moves on to the next skin, the next name, the next tail.
And then Will stomps away shouting about field kabuki, and, really, that was too great an opportunity for Hannibal to pass up.
So Hannibal does the reasonable thing and starts the arduous process of turning Will into a fellow kitsune.
