"The man in the airlock was too conscious.
Well, “man” might not be accurate, Ryland Grace thought as he tried to ignore the screams, his fingers shaking over the keyboards as erratically as his gaze jittering between readout screens. Big red letters announcing “DANGEROUS CONTAMINATION” flashed on half of them. He chanced another look through the tiny airlock window, where the humanoid covered in a red, blood-like substance rolled around on the floor writhing in pain. He hadn’t been writhing when they found him: he hadn’t been anything when they picked up the abnormal shape drifting in the Patrova line on their way to Erid."Ryland Grace has never been great at making friends. Now that he has a mutated, traumatized, and possibly insane man in the Hail Mary's quarantine room, he wishes he would have practiced more. Rocky wishes they'd ejected the monster out of the airlock.

“I realise that continuing to station you here would not be productive, not only because of… personal reasons, but also because the Jaegers stationed here do not need any more engineers now that the majority of Gipsy’s engineers have been reassigned.”
He watched as the Marshal made his way to the other side of the room, his steps slow and deliberate in a way that only Stacker Pentecost could manage.
“Instead, should you choose to accept my offer, you will be stationed at the Sydney Shatterdome.”
Sydney? Was there even a Mark-3 stationed there?
“Vulcan Specter?”
The Marshal didn’t respond immediately. “Striker Eureka.”
Or: The AU where Raleigh becomes an engineer/technician for Striker Eureka instead of a Wall construction worker.

Summary
Ever since they had reunited in Saint Denis, the dynamic between Charles and John had felt strange. Before then, they had shared fleeting conversations (largely thanks to Charles’s one-word answers) and suddenly they had been thrust into the same home, working towards the same goal, and grappling with the same reality - that Arthur Morgan was dead.
