Summary
Nish, bereft but resigned after the engagement announcement, is ready to board his train and make a fresh start in Turin, when word reaches him that Lucian has turned violently ill after drinking a poisoned bottle of wine. In the desperate effort to try and save his dearest friend, Nish is faced with confusing confessions and difficult truths as Lucian dances between life and death before him.

Summary
Returning WWII medic Anish Sengupta intended to spend one night in the charming, if deeply outdated, Hotel Portofino after his ship was called into port for a storm. But the discovery of Lucian, a badly injured man who’s barricaded himself in his room to prevent anyone trying to help him, changes that. Despite Lucian’s warnings that the hotel is cursed and he needs to get out while he can, Nish refuses to abandon his patient, assuming the man is just confused and traumatized from the war. As the days carry on, however, Lucian’s warnings about a repeating day no one can escape from become harder to ignore and easier to accept. But the passage of time also brings Nish and Lucian closer together, leaving Nish with a choice between saving himself from the shared fate of everyone in the hotel, or taking the risk of being trapped forever trying to break the curse and rescue the man he can no longer imagine life without.

A train whistle. That wasn’t right.”
Nish closes his eyes for his execution in the woods, only to open them back at the train station right before he left for Turin. Nothing after that has happened. Yet. Convinced he’s been given a chance to change his fate, Nish returns to the Hotel Portofino to try and change Lucian’s too, sure he’s meant to find a way for both of them to live better lives. Only, Lucian isn’t as receptive to Nish’s interpretation of his vision. Or so he seems at first. Separately and together, Nish and Lucian battle fear, confusion, and doubt as they try to determine what to do with what they’ve been shown and who they are to each other now certain secrets have been revealed.

Summary
There was the sound of the gunshot and something like screaming and then... nothing. Or, almost nothing for four months until Nish opens his eyes in a bed at the Hotel Portofino. Awake at last, his troubles are far from over as he’s forced to cope and contend with the life-changing losses he’s incurred, the physical and emotional trials of the recovery ahead, and the guilt he’s slowly being consumed by over the seemingly endless work Lucian has done, and continues to do, to keep him alive. Desperate to see the man he still loves free from the shackles of caring for him, Nish struggles to heal enough for Lucian to let him go and leave him behind, only to discover that Lucian has very different ideas from Nish about what his ideal life looks like.
