“That’s ridiculous, Spock,” Jim countered, sitting back up and looking his first officer dead in the eyes. “The logical solution would be to share. There’s plenty of room, and if we’re to stop McCoy, we’re both going to need to be well-rested, aren’t we? Can you deny the logic in that?”
Spock regarded him carefully. “I would not want to make you uncomfortable, Captain. I know humans have many societal standards that I am unfamiliar with when it comes to physical intimacy, and sharing a bed—”
“To hell with societal standards, Spock, you’re not a human and I’m your best friend, who gives a damn?” Jim near-shouted. “I sure don’t! We’re sharing the bed, Spock, do I need to make it an order?”
There was a pause.
“As you wish, Captain,” said Spock, tilting his head in acknowledgement.
