Summary
Shane gets sick. Shane won't go to the doctor. Things get worse. (More shane whump)
“Oof, I don’t feel good” Ilya looks up to see Shane leaning forward, one hand braced against the counter and face set in a grimace.
“You are strong boy, you will survive.” He responds, but he’s still unable to keep the edge of concern out of his voice. Shane hadn’t eaten anything today but one of the protein bars that the new nutrition coach was pushing on the team.
Shane looks up at him and smiles halfway, face pale and drawn, and Ilya lets instinct take over when he walks over and rubs Shane’s back in the way Shane likes. He immediately relaxes between Ilya’s hands, tense muscles melting.
“Think I’m just gonna go to bed early.” Shane mumbles, eyes closed.

Ilya’s heart is breaking. He doesn’t want the first thing he does, the very first thing, after Shane’s choices have been so brutally ripped away from him, to be something Shane is begging him not to do. But Shane is seriously injured, much beyond what they can handle with first aid at home or even if they found a discreet doctor to make a house call. He will need an MRI, a broken bone set, probably surgery. And evidence should be collected too, for the police. That part Ilya will not push him on. But he cannot let Shane risk his life for his pride and the fear of shame that has controlled him for so long. “I am sorry, moy lyubimyy,” Ilya says, “So sorry. But Marleau is calling ambulance, and you are going to the hospital.”

Shane and Ilya are spending Christmas together in Boston during Ilya's last season playing for the Bears. They're finally out, and they're in love, and soon they'll only live two hours apart.

Summary
Newly traded to the Ottawa Centaurs, Ilya Rozanov is so close to having everything he’d never thought he was allowed to want. He can see the man he loves more than four times a year, he’s surrounded by a team who supports him through his injury, and Shane’s parents have unhesitatingly accepted him as part of the family.

Wyatt doesn't laugh. If anything, his eyes narrow further, tracking the way Ilya’s hands are trembling slightly as he reaches down to tighten his skates. “Yeah, well, this Russian looks like he's about to faint."
Or Ilya Rozanov is fine. He is completely fine. It doesn't matter that his limbs feel like lead, his throat feels like sandpaper, or that he had to swallow two Advil dry just to get out of the house. He can handle a morning practice. But his body doesn't care about his stubbornness, and when the rink begins to tilt beneath his skates, Ilya realizes that maybe russians do sometimes get sick.
