They stand there for a few seconds, facing one another. Eddie doesn’t know what to say, well he knows what he could say, he just doesn’t know if he wants to say it.

Summary
After Sam officially becomes Captain America an unexpected consequence is the growing number of boring events he has to attend. But once Bucky decides to accompany him, those annoying parties become much more enjoyable (even if Sam thinks Bucky’s choice of clothing is less than ideal). In between those parties, they realize a couple of things, mainly that they do not want each other like best friends.
Based on the song Dress by Taylor Swift.
UPDATE (09/10/2021): this has not been abandoned, I'm having a health issue and haven't been able to write in the last two weeks. I'll finish this when things are better.

Something changed for him in New Mexico. On his knees in the dirt, cradling Buck's head, Buck's dirty hair against his palm and his pulse thudding against Eddie's fingers, which he couldn't pull away even though Buck was awake, smiling dazedly under the blood and the bruises. Something changed then. Cracked open. He could patch it up, probably. He's good at that. He's done it before, plenty of times.
Under his hands, Buck breathes, warm and alive.

There is still an electricity in the air, even as the afternoon has given way to evening. People are beginning to go home, bidding Sam goodnight, and shaking Bucky’s hand while telling him it was nice to meet him.
After the last of the community members have left, Sam tells Sarah to head on back to the house. She’s organized enough of the cookout. She works so hard for their family and for the community. She deserves to put her feet up. When they’re finally alone, Bucky looks at Sam like he deserves a rest, too.“What?” asks Sam.
“Leave that,” Bucky nods to the box of leftover food that Sam is packing away. “I got it.”

"I miss you."
Eddie didn’t mean to say it, didn’t even know he was thinking it. Buck shifts a little restlessly.
"I literally could not be closer to you," he says dryly. Which isn’t true, after all. They’re under the same covers, Buck’s body warming him as his must be warming Buck’s, but there’s plenty of space between them.
The only way to change things is to find a way to say what you want.
