Summary
For many Trainers in different region, being able to be with their Pokemon, traveling and conquering challenges is a blessing. But in the region of Umbralia, it's a curse. A dystopian archipelago of polluted islands ruled by the Elite Council where 90% of the population are crammed into sprawling, surveilled slums and the law exists only to maintain oppression and misuse the weak, the only chance to survive is to escape, but that is close to impossible. Officers and Gym Leaders overpower anything - and the loss in battle means enslavement; or worse.
Sierra has never been as lucky as to get anywhere near the chance of escaping. Instead, she tries to survive in the slums with her family, but her luck finally runs out once. Just before her life can become a true nightmare, a mysterious stranger steps in, preventing the worst.
