Summary
Midoriya Izuku could never truly decide if his quirk was more a blessing or curse in his pursuit of becoming a hero. On one hand, it gave him all the power he could ever need to fight back the tide of villainy that seemed to rapidly cover his home. With his might, he could banish that dark tide, lift the world up, and see everyone smile together, free of fear and guilt. On the other hand, if history truly did repeat itself, he wasn't sure he could risk becoming the sea of fire that sought to raze Japan. Maybe everyone was right with their leering eyes and hateful words. It was so easy to answer their judgmental questions from the certain safety of anger.
Who are you in the dark? It didn't matter to Izuku, he could see in any abyss. Who are you when no one can stop you? No one asked the greatest hero in the world that question, they just worshiped the ground he walked on.
Don't children grow up to be their parents?
"No," Izuku said plainly. It was unfortunate that they chose to argue on ground he had tread a thousand times. "We are who we choose to be."
