Rhaenyra Targaryen había descubierto la verdad de como había muerto su madre después de haber sido sacada de la sucesión por su padre a favor de su medio hermano Aegon solo por sueños que tuvo.
Soportó aquella triste realidad en soledad, pero juró vengarse de aquel que se hacía llamar su padre y rey.
Su prima, Jeyne Arryn había venido a hablar con el rey Viserys de acoger a Rhaenyra y nombrarla su sucesora. Este aceptó sin saber que había firmado la destrucción de su familia completamente.

“I don’t know what to do, Jace… I don’t…” she had whispered, voice trembling. “I was reading to him, and… he started coughing again… I rang for his tea, but he… Jace, please. Bring him back. Please… Jacaerys, he’s not breathing.”
“He’s gone, Baela,” he had murmured, his heart breaking. “He’s gone.”
Jace had felt powerless then, just as he felt powerless now. He couldn’t bring back their son. But he could try to bring his wife back.
