Summary
Louis’ hand is cold when Lestat holds it, his face like ice when Lestat touches his jaw. His heart hammers against his ribs.
Instinct kicks in.
Lestat slits his wrist with a sharp nail, bringing it to Louis’ unmoving, beautiful lips, letting blood spill over his chin like a cascade.
“What are you doing?!” Gabriella again. Her voice irritates him.
“He needs my blood,” Lestat answers, not taking his eyes away from Louis’ still figure.
“What? You’re not well enough to do this, Lestat!” Cookie’s voice now. “You lost a lot of blood, they’re giving him blood already, there’s no need—”
“He needs mine!” He shouts, losing all composure, only then feeling the tears angrily stream down his face. He thinks of Louis’ reaction to the taste of his blood at the bar, the first time that century. His hollowed cheeks, eyes rolling to the back of his skull. Lestat wants to fall to his knees and weep. “I know it, he needs mine. It’ll help him! Just… Just let me do this…”

It had been just over a month since Louis told Lestat he loved him in a flurry of terrifying emotions and poorly-parsed sentiments that he’d been sitting on for over a century, all of which had finally come bubbling up one random night when his husband sang a work-in-progress to him and Louis responded as if he’d said it all before, as if he had never thought the words had killed his brother, as if it was in any way an appropriate response to “Do you think I should move to the A or the F?”. He hadn’t been able to stop saying it since.
Similarly, it had just been just over a month since Louis and Lestat had sex.
