Shane truly cannot fathom why the six foot three man that lives in the penthouse suite has been hogging up the security phone line these days. Like clockwork, at 1:15 am, the phone rings. Shane doesn't even need to look at the caller I.D. to know exactly who he's talking to.
“Yes, Mr. Rozanov?” He says through gritted teeth. He hears the Russian man chuckle through the phone speaker. Even through the sleepiness and annoyance, Shane still feels his heart leap at the familiar sound.

“I’m sorry,” Shane whispers against Ilya’s hair. “I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t—”
Shane cuts himself off with a faint stutter in his breath that Ilya feels in his own chest.
“Please,” Ilya begs, but he isn’t sure what he is even asking for.
He wants Shane to leave. He wants Shane to stay. He wants Shane to hold him and never let go.
Ilya feels Shane’s fingers fist in his curls, holding tight as if Ilya could ever bring himself to pull away.
Shane doesn’t know that Ilya could never, that he cannot fathom turning his back to take even one step away from him.
All he can do is push Shane away, make him walk first, and pick up the pieces left behind.
Or an alternative to that fight from the long game, but instead of Shane leaving as Ilya asks, they actually talk it out

“Ilya?” He’s breathless, barely whispering. That's obviously Ilya but at the same time not at all. His hair looks different, his face looks… Older. There are little wrinkles next to his eyes and Shane's head hurts at how unfamiliar they look.
“Oh. You weren’t joking.” Is all Ilya supplies, his face serious as he carefully scans Shane's body with his eyes. “You look… Young. I did not expect that.”
“And you're old. What the fuck?”-
Shane gets hurt on the ice after a bad hit from Boston’s Cliff Marlow, and promptly passes out. When he wakes up, it is ten years later, and he’s in an unfamiliar bed.
