Summary
A year has passed since enduring the battle with Yun at the Avatar's Estate in Yokoya. Everything has been quiet, with the exception of the usual politicians vying for Avatar Kyoshi's attention. Rangi has spent the time recovering from her grievous wound and getting the Avatar's Estate back in shape, with the help of her mother, Hei-Ran. However, there are unresolved issues within the Spirit World that begin to affect parts of the Nations connected to major spiritual sites. Knowing that it is time for their newest adventure, the Flying Opera Company heads off to solve the world's issues once again. But, how do they help Kyoshi when she must enter into places where they cannot go?

Amidst the festivities, Kyoshi finds herself captivated by Rangi, fierce and graceful in a way she’s never seen before. Later, when the guests have gone and the hall is empty, Rangi coaxes Kyoshi into a clumsy, intimate dance… before leading her away to her room to give her a gift.

Summary
So this is a little “what if” I’ve been playing with. What if Hei-Ran wasn’t supportive of Rangi choosing to follow her heart? What if she leaned harder into duty, expectations, and alliances, instead of giving Rangi space to choose for herself?
This idea takes place in The Rise of Kyoshi timeline—right after Kyoshi defeats Tagaka. In this version, nobody believes she’s the Avatar, and everything continues as it “should”… at least on the surface. That tension—between what’s expected and what Rangi really wants—sits at the core of this AU.
I’m still debating whether I want to turn this into a full fic, so let me know if you’d like me to continue it. 💭
