Summary
Things were always easier when it was just the two of them. Him, and her, joking, messing around, confiding in one another their hopes and dreams. Even after a long, and soul-crushing day, they could still find a moment of peace, just in knowing the other was there. But something terrible looms just over the horizon. And it weighs on his mind, even seeing her hope, because he knows that she will fail. And that he'll be there with her, trying vainly to change something.
Fate had let them have their little freedom far too long. Any moment now, it will pull the strings and they'll be ripped apart.
But they still have to try.

Summary
Homestuck is a flawed comic. It's far too long and bloated for its ideas to shine through, its creator is a smug asshole, and it's genuinely kind of infuriating at times with how needlessly convoluted it is. It's not without its merits, but those merits are obscured by its flaws, for me anyway.
But what if they weren't?
What if we started Homestuck from the beginning, with the hindsight decide which ideas were most imporant? What if we cut everything that only served to waste time, touched up the characters so their personalities can thrive and arcs can progress, reworked the plot from the ground up?
That is what I'm hoping to accomplish here.
Welcome to Homestuck Rewritten.

Summary
Susie had been thinking a *lot* about her friend Ralsei. Even when Susie would mock and tease him, Ralsei would always treat her with nothing but respect and kindness. He always talked about how wonderful she was, he was always happy to see her, he barely ever got upset with her since they met. Ralsei was always nice to her, even when he was upset with her. So, she started thinking about him. It was small, at first, the kind of thing so small she didn’t even notice she was doing it. Soon, it started getting in the way of other things. It was driving her crazy. Something about him just made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. She hadn’t really felt this way about anyone before. No one had ever treated her this way before. She had to do *something.* Something to show how much it meant to her. Maybe then she’d be able to stop thinking about him so much.

Summary
Ralsei loved his friends. Kris was strong and heroic and they guided him as much as he did them. Susie was kind and fun, a little mean, but he knew that above all, she was a good person.
But Ralsei... Ralsei was a Darkner. He worshipped his Lightners. They were like Gods. Beings of Light, more powerful than he could ever dream. He wanted to make them feel comfortable, to love and appreciate them until the end. That was what made him happy. As long as they were together, everything would be okay. But sometimes, he felt something strange, yet familiar. A pervasive emptiness in the very core of his being that stayed no matter what he did. It faded, but it never went away, almost like a scar. He didn't understand. The Lightners were here. Everything should have been okay now. So why did he feel this strange feeling? He never disobeyed their commands. He did as we was told. He was good. Why did he still feel empty?
Was this feeling something normal? Or was it a sign of deviance? Sometimes, he wanted to rebel against his Lightners. But why? They had never done anything to him. He loved them. He had to love them, or else...Or else nothing. None of these feelings were real. Everything was okay.

Summary
“Kel started collecting bottles.
He couldn’t explain it really, in a way that would make sense to anyone else anyway, why he needed so many. Why the rows and hoards of rinsed bottles got him through the day. But they helped. Whenever his throat knotted up, or traitorous mist started to cloud his eyes, he could take comfort in the fact that there was somewhere else to put it. That he could cough up or carve out all the hard and ugly things and trap them somewhere else. And as long as he kept collecting bottles, he’d never run out of space for it all.“
Or
Kel and his coping mechanisms that totally, definitely work. (Spoiler: they don’t.)

Bookmarker's Notes
I have read this fic and it is a certified banger. In character everyone, execllent narration, great concept, the whole package. Will read more of this author's work.
If for whatever reason you're reading my bookmarks, read soda bottle baby by sunflowerstarfruit, you won't regret it. Spoilers for OMORI tho. Also, play OMORI if you haven't. Then read this.

Summary
There's a cycle to the life of a Darkner.
They're born, and from whatever hopes-and-dreams cobbled them together they get a role, static and unchanging. They play their role good, until they aren't needed anymore and are left forgotten, like all things that are outgrown. They don't want things beyond what they were made for, because they are not people: they are Darkners. They do not want.
Ralsei can't stop herself from wanting, anyways.
