“If you remember this, or any of this,” Hiyori gritted her teeth, and her footsteps across the street quickened, “tell me that you hate summer.”
“Hate summer…?” Hibiya asked, letting himself be pulled by her, “what are you talking about?”
“Maybe you’ll never know. I hope you don’t ever have to, but if you ever do — even if it’s tens of thousands of years from now. Tell me. Tell me that you hate this endless summer as much as I do.”

It wasn’t often that Riliane prayed, but now, she prayed hard. She prayed for everything she’s ever loved and everything she’s ever lost. For silly little mirrors that she played with on the beach’s shore, for sea cast bottles that always returned, for teatime with friends, for the brioche she always loved, and… for her brother. She prayed with all her heart and soul, her eyes turned upwards towards the twinkling stars, as if somewhere, somehow, he would answer, and he would shine brightly like any star would just for her.
(She was able to smile, back then. And Allen had smiled back, an intense smile — calm, and gentle, like the moon that controlled the ocean’s tides).

Summary
She now knows why she never liked summer and why there was always some sort of pang in her chest whenever she even thought about it. She, Hiyori Asahina, was a far-from-simple girl who liked things pristine, clean, and perfect. She was a girl who wanted everything to be nothing short of the way she wanted. She was a girl with the heart of ice who never warmed up for anybody.
And somehow, for better or for worse, these blood-stained summers managed to thaw her heart with the fleeting feelings of love, rip it out of her chest, and then tear it in two.
(At age 11, she already had so many regrets. Perhaps letting him be one of them was the worst one of them all).

“Hey, listen to me,” Momo reaches out to cup his face between her hands, her eyes meeting his own, “you’re not alone with this, okay? Because we’re going to save her: me, you, and all the other people in this building.” Her eyes burned, not because of her ability, but because of the emotions surging through her, “And sure, the thought of fighting this ‘Clearing Eyes’ guy is scary, but we’re going to do it together, got it?”
She smiles as Hibiya looks up at her, eyes wide, once again looking like one of those bug-eyed fish, “Plus, we have my brother on our side! His plan will get us out of this in no time!”
He looks down for a moment after she stops talking, pillow still clutched to his chest. He was thinking again and honestly, he did remind her a lot of her brother- both smart, but in incredibly irritating ways.
“Well,” she looks back at him, slightly relieved (and terrified) when she saw a small smirk on his face, “that makes me wonder where all that intelligence went for you.”
