    Summary

At the rink, during the games, Ilya is focused, his goal is clear, and he is locked in on it.

When he’s out of the ice, Ilya feels like a lion in a cage, like he’s pacing around an enclosure that is too small, too tight, too stifling as he counts down the days until the next Raiders’ game against the Metros.

    ***
Or, after the tuna melt incident and the game that followed, Ilya decides to give Shane some time to cool off before he reaches out.

(A continuation of “Love’s the Death of Peace of Mind”, but can be read as a stand-alone).

    Summary

He thought he’d pulled it off. He thought he got away with it.

    Ilya just wanted more time.

He just wanted the opportunity to pause a bit, to take his time with Shane’s body other than in the confines of a dark hotel room, and to get to see a bit more of Shane’s intriguing mind. He thought it might help quench the unexplained thirst for him, that he has for no one else.

    ***
or: Shane flees, leaving Ilya adrift in his wake

Can be read as a standalone.

    Summary

    Ilya loves sex.

Because it’s the most natural, pleasurable activity that any two (or more) consenting adults can engage into that doesn’t come with a defined process, or a one-size-fits-all way of doing it. It’s a dialogue, a very unique give and take between the people involved, a creative, singular experience each time.
He also never repeats sexual encounters with anyone.
There are two exceptions to that rule. Svetlana, and Shane Hollander.

    ***
or: Ilya tries to understand why Shane Hollander has managed to become a rare exception to his rule.

Set right pre-tuna melt, and sets the scene to their meeting at Ilya's.

Edit: can be read as a standalone, but now included in a series, as a prologue to my pieces on the tuna melt incident and its aftermath from both their POV

“Yet each man kills the thing he loves
By each let this be heard

    Summary

A month. It is all it takes before Justin and Brian make their way back to where they belong.

Set between 307 and 308, and delves into the events that split our boys up before bringing them back together.
There have been many takes on that period of time in the show. Two of my personal favorites are Severina’s The Only Way Is Up and AHS’s Creative (Go read them and send them love!)
As I am not as concise as they are, and I needed to make sense of the damned month-gap the creators left us with, here is my (long-winded, hopefully okay) view of the events, in two parts to explore both their points of view.

Thank you so very much for AHS’s insightful beta. You rock, dear!

People often come into your life uninvited. Most don’t leave a trace. Some leave an indelible mark.

    ***
Introspective fic and gap-filler of sorts stemming from my constant fascination with Brian and Jennifer’s interactions over the course of the show, in that case from 108 to 205. Warning for the (non-too graphic, but still) reference to Prom-related traumatic events.
Title obviously borrowed from Ms. Aretha’s anthem (though the fic has nothing to do with the amazing lyrics of the song).

Set between 513 and the beginning of my serie “The Paths Untraveled” (the scene is mentioned in Chap 3), but can easily be read as a stand-alone fic (in which case you only need to know the canon course of the show and that Justin has been in NYC for the last three months).

    Summary

Sometimes, when words fail, music is the only way one's soul can be heard.

Introspective fic inspired by the show’s meaningful and amazing use of music. Inspired by the scene in 510 where Brian sits in the car and watches Justin set up the updated info for the event at Babylon, before the bombing.

It explores Brian’s relationship with music, and some of my headcanons regarding his childhood and early adulthood, at least what I inferred from the snippets we were given in canon.
Filled to the brim with gratuitous references to music, and as Jack and Joanie Kinney are mentioned, a warning for child abuse/ neglect is in order (though no graphic reference is made).

    Summary

Among the great struggles of man -good/evil, reason/unreason, etc. – there is also this mighty conflict between the fantasy of Home and the fantasy of Away, the dream of roots and the mirage of the journey.
