Summary
Will steps into the woods. Birds chirp around him, and squirrels run up the trees. It's been six months since Vecna was finally defeated, and now everyone is finally beginning to settle. Everyone except for Will. He can't seem to get out of fight or flight mode, and everything's been wrong. His body feels off, heavy and achy, while his concentration is shot. No one noticed when he stopped showing up to things, stopped answering his radio. El will chatter every night about what her and Mike were up to that day.
And it seems to take all of Dustin's energy to keep moving, and to show up himself. Lucas is with Max, and no one noticed when Will started to fade into the background. He knew if he stopped trying, this is what would happen. He knew as soon as he had to beg for their attention. It's ok though, he's always known his place. And now it's fine for him to step back, and let them all breathe without him. Every morning he takes another walk like this one, trying to chase away the ache in his joints that make it hard to move. Part of him knows that he should say something, that this isn't normal pain.
That something is seriously wrong, but he can't bring himself to.

My conformity gate fic!
Mike tunes him out, watching each of them closer. Will's smiling, but it looks odd. It doesn't reach his eyes, and they don't sparkle like they normally do when he's actually happy. And his phrasing earlier calling Mike the storyteller, and not the paladin just makes it all feel more odd. Even if Mike has said he's the storyteller, Will has insisted that he is the still Mike the brave, the heart of the party, the paladin hero.
And Dustin's placing everything down with his right hand, which is odd since Dustin's left handed. And he's never been the type to force himself to use his right hand, even if it was easier. Lucas is standing too straight, shoulders too tight. He isn't helping, just standing there, staring off into space. Mike looks around at his best friends, wondering why this feels so wrong. Max walks back in, bringing garlic bread in a bowl. She sets it on the table, looking around. Her eyes lock on Mike, narrowed.

Summary
He was sick of it, all this waiting, and that was surely what he was doing. Waiting until he finally worked up the nerve to just do it. It wasn’t like he had any other plans for what to do in Paris, and it was as nice of a place to go as any. Not that he’d actually seen much of the sights since he arrived, but he’d been here before, so it wasn’t like he was missing anything particularly new.
Still, he felt like he’d hit a standstill. No matter how hard he tried to drink himself into a stupor, to give himself the liquid courage that killing himself would require, he still failed night after night. It was yet another reminder of his own selfishness, that he valued his own life enough to risk endangering the lives of others by continuing his poisonous existence. It was only further proof that he was a bloody coward, like he didn’t know that already.

aka a Post-Dark Phoenix fic where Charles's plans to kill himself in Paris are interrupted by the appearance of Erik, but he ends up trying to go through with it anyway. Thanks to Erik, he does not succeed and finds new reasons to keep on living.
This is a fix-it fic for Dark Phoenix where I temporarily make things worse in order to make them better.
