Sam glanced over at Bucky, watching him closely. Watched him relax back into the seat with the gun in his hands and looking out at nothing. He deeply, deeply hoped that Bucky wouldn’t end up killing more people as this Flagsmasher shitshow continued on. With how easy it had been for Buck to slip right back into the Winter Soldier mode, he had a feeling that he’d be disappointed. This mission was going nowhere good. Nowhere good at all.

"Danny, I—"
"Did I say you could talk?" Danny's voice cracked like a whip, too sharp, the edges fraying with panic. "I'm not done. Drive. Keep your eyes on the road and your mouth shut."
Steve blinked. "But—"
"I said mouth shut." Danny's hands were trembling, but he made his face hard, made his eyes angry, because if Steve saw even a fraction of what was underneath—if he knew how close Danny was to breaking—he wouldn't stop. He'd keep talking, and Danny would have to hear it, and he couldn't. He absolutely couldn't. "One more word and I'm getting out of this car. Right here."
Danny Williams is excellent at denials. Steve McGarrett is not.
