She gave Emily the rundown, the quirks and customs of the BAU. She told Emily about the case they’d be working on, helped her with the layout of the building, gave her a tour. All through bright smiles and a musical laugh that felt like warmth every time Emily heard it. And it all stood out to her that JJ was kind. JJ was welcoming. JJ was different in a way Emily couldn’t quite place, didn’t have the tools yet to figure out. JJ was sunshine.

Summary
It becomes a habit pretty quickly. Nancy in bed, the bedside clock anywhere from midnight to five in the morning, and Holly slinking through the bedroom door and crawling into Nancy’s bed like she is four again and boogeyman nightmares are the scariest thing she knows. Holly never cries. Nancy never mentions it.

Nancy can't handle not knowing, Holly can't sleep in her own room, and Robin and Nancy have separate breakdowns

Summary
Joyce and Hopper get married in the brilliant heat of July. The sun shines down upon the beachside venue. A beautiful arch covered in lilies sits off in the distance, the sea lapping up on the shore behind it. Nancy watches the glimmers atop the waves as they roll in and drift out. Listens to the sounds of the wedding guests milling about the beach house that would become a reception hall after the ceremony. It’s lovely. The whole scene is lovely.
A body eclipses the view, but Nancy sees who it is. The view is still lovely.
“I missed you!” Robin says, pulling— yanking— Nancy into a crushing hug.
Nancy grins, her smile hiding in the mess of Robin’s hair. “Missed you, too.”

Nancy hesitantly picked up the rotary phone from her bedside table, her hands still trembling as she resigned herself to dialing the ever-familiar number. She bit her lip, trying not to think too hard about what she was doing.
After a few rings, a groggy voice rang through the speakers. "Robin Buckley speaking, and you better have a good reason for calling at two in the morning, because I swear to God if this is a telemarketer --"
"Robin," Nancy cut her off, trying to stabilize her own voice before she continued. "Not a telemarketer. It's -- it's me."
"Nance?" Robin's voice grew soft with worry, and Nancy felt her shoulders relax. She tried to ignore the warmth that rose to her cheeks. "What's the matter? Are you okay?"
"I'm home." she replied, her voice still quiet, a whisper underneath the screams of stop inside her own head. "Can you come over?"

Summary
It hits Nancy, hard and sudden, how much things have changed and stayed the same all at once. She can picture, clear as day, the Robin of two years ago, sprawled in her passenger seat and talking a mile a minute. Except, Robin’s hair is long now, nearly golden in the light that streams in through the window. Nancy fights the urge to reach out and run her fingers through it just to see how it feels.
For a moment, she feels suspended in time, caught between past and present, aching for something she can’t quite name.

Summary
Robin looks up again, hands stilling. Her expression is soft, searching, but a heavy worry lurks beneath the surface despite her best attempts to keep it contained. Her gaze flicks over Nancy’s face like she’s mapping each detail.
Nancy can hardly stand it. The pity, the concern for her. It’s coming dangerously close to her admitting she needs something. And she can’t bring herself to do that. Not now. It feels like Robin’s going to be able to see right through her, past all the skin and bone, straight through to the twisted mess underneath.
“I’m okay.” Nancy asserts, tilting her chin up slightly, aiming for something akin to defiance.
“Okay,” Robin answers carefully, “But I’m still gonna be here.”
She says it like a promise.

Or Robin's utterly devoted and there for Nancy in Season 5 when her parents are in the hospital, and Nancy realizes she never has to ask: Robin's just there for her like it's the most natural thing in the world.

Summary
Robin loudly slurps her strawberry milkshake, red straw puckered between her lips. A little leftover sits in the dip of her bottom lip.
Nancy drops her gaze to the table.
"So," she starts quietly, swallowing down her doubt—the uncontrollable skip in her chest each time their knees brush. "Are you gonna let me try strawberry, or...?"
Robin looks up at her, eyes wide—expectant. The straw falls out of her mouth.
"Or—" Nancy stumbles a little. "Let me suffer with vanilla forever."
Robin blinks. "Uh—yeah, of course. Try away. I can get you a spare straw if—"
But Nancy is already sliding the glass across the table, cool against her fingertips, and taking Robin's wet straw into her mouth.

The Upside Down is gone, but Nancy still can't sleep... unless one Robin Buckley is next to her.
She doesn't know why.
