Summary
Following Chuck's defeat and Jack's vanishing act, Dean Winchester leaves everything behind and takes off running. With freedom comes the fresh hell of grief and the finality of it. But, of course, life has a sense of humor.
Running quickly turns into fatherhood, quickly turns into a cabin in the mountains, quickly turns into dealing with all the rising pain and trauma and grief that he's been holding back. But maybe it'll all end up alright. After all, he's got a baby Jack to take care of, a cabin to fix up, and the relentless urge to sing his troubles away. In a way, it's a life he's dreamed of, mundane and slow with a kid a parent could only dream of and the security of a roof over his head.
Dean's realized that there's just one thing missing. There's always been just one thing missing from it all.

Summary
Wounds like these never truly heal or close, simply stop bleeding, require less dressing. The throb of pain becomes a second heartbeat, letting him know that she's still there, nestled away in some part of him. A part of him that hurts, sure, but it feels better than the numbness of frost and cold turning into bitter nothing. Her laughter, the way Edgin remembers it, feels a lot like letting go. Xenk's, so similar, feels more like breathing in. Maybe that glimpse of something else means he's almost there.
Edgin deals with grief and loss even more after Neverwinter—after Holga. Because it's real now and it's hard to accept that. The world seems eager to leave him behind, no matter how hard he tries to reach out. Then there's a hand in the dark, finding purchase, pulling him out. Xenk always seems to find out exactly where he needs to be.

It's been exactly two weeks since escaping federal custody. The Winchesters have taken that time to recuperate, for once. After Lucifer, after the Government, after Billie, maybe it's time to lay low for awhile. That is, until Sam gets a call and a scheduled meet up by everyone's favorite Man of Letters: Mick Davies. They've been on amicable terms, for the most part, and denying that would just strain an already strenuous relationship. So, here Sam is, facing the man who's both helped and hurt him over the last few months, knowing fairly well how this would end.
