Caroline Forbes thought her life was perfectly normal until she and Elena Gilbert were kidnapped by vampires Rose and Trevor. When Elena tries to have Stefan or Damon compel her to forget, it fails: Caroline cannot be compelled. Suddenly, she’s thrust into a supernatural world she didn’t even know she belonged to.
Caroline soon discovers she is the soulmate of the Original family, the oldest and most powerful beings on Earth. Her father isn’t who she thought, her mother has been hiding her true identity, and now being the Originals’ soulmate makes her the most hunted person alive.

Summary
Caroline Forbes isn't special, except she could see people who weren't there. Not every ghost it isn't like she goes to the cemetery and sees a bunch of dead people. Just two mostly, a kind of psychotic one and a quiet sullen one. And the worst part is they won't leave her alone, they can't.
Now Caroline has to navigate this and all the things that come with living in Mystic Falls. It would also really help if she could stop having weird dreams that would be great.

Caroline can see 'ghosts' and that causes her to get more involved in the plot from the beginning maybe with a few curveballs thrown in.

The only person I could see was this… stranger. But when I moved, so did she. When I walked, she did too. I was this unfamiliar pale girl with brown eyes, and a young face that was so different from mine.
I moved closer to the mirror. Her eyes looked fearful and confused. Her expression matched mine, and her body reacted like mine with shaking hands and a pounding heart. I was in someone else’s body.
I was in Bella Swan's body.
