Summary
Astarion passes through Waterdeep occasionally. Not often. But the urge to roam sometimes overpowers the convenience of home, and the temptation of coin doesn’t hurt, either. There are people who need to be killed up and down the Sword Coast, he is unsurprised to learn, and he’s very good at it, good enough that he gets to be choosy, which is novel. Occasionally he takes a contract somewhere just because he’d like to see it, or to visit a friend on the way.
Astarion passes through Waterdeep occasionally, and Gale enjoys his visits.
After the fall of the Netherbrain, Gale settles back in Waterdeep. Astarion doesn't quite settle anywhere. But their paths do cross, on occasion, and they have the chance to see one another in a new light.

"Ye taking care of yerself proper on the mainland, Chil?" Senshi had said, concern sparkling in his eyes, his calloused hand wrapped around a tankard that nearly seemed too small for him. Chilchuck thought about it wrapped around his arm, his waist, and felt like killing himself.
"Sure," He replied instead, the taste of ale sticking to his tongue. "Fine enough. It's been weird without your cooking, though." He admitted on a whim, because it's true, if not a bit silly — But he's never eaten as good as he did when the dwarf was tending to his every meal, and that's an undeniable fact of his life. He keeps himself fed, but it's not the same as what he would be prepared in the dungeon.
"Well," Senshi hummed, then nods to himself. "I'll just have to come make ye something, then."
And so Chilchuck, for the first time since he's been home, cleans and reorganizes his small, meager kitchen.

Jaskier wasn't in the market for a replacement witcher. Not after Geralt had broken his heart so thoroughly. There must surely be more appreciative audiences and travel companions to be had, and if he was lucky maybe even with a smidge less chaos and mortal peril thrown into the bargain.
Yet within a fortnight, he'd gone and stumbled across another witcher in the middle of absolutely nowhere. It's possible that Destiny is laughing at him.
