Summary
If Obi-Wan were anyone else, Shmi would be confident in her ability to hide what she’s feeling, to bury it deep where even she can’t find it, but Obi-Wan isn’t like the beings she’s accustomed to. Though she only has the most rudimentary understanding of the Force, she’s sure it must be singing around her, broadcasting every base and embarrassing – not to mention delusional – twist and turn of her psyche.
Obi-Wan is young and powerful and beautiful, while Shmi is none of those things. Delusional doesn’t even begin to cover it.
But Obi-Wan is also kind and understanding, his face open as he turns to face her, putting them eye-to-eye. “It’s alright,” he says, no lie in it. “I can shield us from each other if you’d like, but I personally find no need for it. There’s nothing you could feel that I would object to.”
