“Sorry if it’s inappropriate to ask,” she said, seeing the man clearly had no intentions of adding anything else, “but what’s your name?”
Finally, a clear emotion lit up his face, even if as subtle as eyes widened in surprise.
“You... don’t know?”
“No,” she admitted apologetically. “I guess I should since I was working for your father, but, well, he didn’t mention you at all.”
“Hm.” The man considered her for a longer moment, then simply said, “Good.”
Without adding anything else, he turned his gaze away from her.
In other circumstances, Ivy would have surely walked away by now; she wasn’t a particularly patient person, and putting up with other people’s antics was definitely not her strong suit. But there was something about this man—something that tugged at her curiosity, an itch she knew wouldn’t go away unless scratched.

A twirl of her scythe to land her attack and she could almost see the monstrous claws in the seconds everything spun and blurred, the hand possessively wrapped around her very own, both holding on her reaper weapon.
