Each stream of sand slipped past itself in a way that felt wrong, like time stuttering instead of flowing down.

Summary
Zanka has exactly two months left to find a pianist if he wants to compete. Unfortunately, he's driven away every accompanist who's ever tried to work with him.
Then, one day, he hears the most incredible piano playing he's ever encountered.
Certain he's finally found the perfect partner, Zanka immediately asks the pianist to accompany him.
The answer "Nah."
Back home, his foster father Enjin reveals that the mysterious pianist is a well-known prodigy who never plays for anyone.
Instead, he suggests trying Zanka's luck with a newly arrived family living upstairs. Apparently, one of the kids is a pianist too.
So Zanka, Riyo, Rudo, and Enjin head upstairs to welcome their new neighbors and ask for help.
The family seems normal enough—until their foster mother, , calls down the third child.
To everyone's shock, it's him.
The prodigy. The pianist who rejected Zanka earlier that day.
After some arguing, a few insults, and one very annoyed violinist completely losing his temper, the impossible happens
The prodigy agrees to practice with him. Once.
