Summary
Muriel loves the Earth. She loves the fascinating colours, she loves the possibilities, she loves the humans. And more than anything, Muriel loves love. Friendship, family, romance. And then the best of all happens: she falls in love herself.
Death sometimes wondered if it could be called "routine", when you did the same thing all the time, day and night. Even when she appeared to lurk aimlessly somewhere, she was welcoming some poor humans into mortality in every corner of the world. What was certain was that it had come to define her. She was nothing more than Death, and the angel she had once been had faded in the shadow of six thousand years of horror. She was nothing but the Feared. And she certainly didn't deserve the love of the sweetest angel of Heaven.

Summary
What James finds within might as well be a different world entirely. The air crackles with the sense of something wild and wilfully disobedient, jewelled colours whirling and winking in the low light, glancing off the glasses. The music sings up through the soles of his shoes.
It’s like an image out of a fairytale: a lost glittering kingdom hidden beneath the earth.
----------
With the war over, James takes a chance on whispered rumours of a pub with less than conventional clientele to, if only briefly, be himself where no one knows him. Instead, he finds someone who does.
Better late than never.

Summary
He had opened the letter at the breakfast table, surrounded by soldiers talking boisterously despite the early hour, and plates of toast, and bowls of porridge. His own breakfast forgotten as soon as the letter was handed to him. He struggled to maintain composure, keeping his brewing excitement from spilling out. Part of him had been concerned that he hadn’t heard from Havers for a long while, but another part reveled in the anticipation. It did not take him long to read the letter so his excitement died almost as quickly as it came. His heart dropped and his brow furrowed. The desire to comfort Anthony became physical pain, a vice tightened in his chest. No noise could penetrate him, no other desire or need to be anywhere but with him. If he believed it would make a difference, he would have dropped to his knees and prayed to God right then and there to bring Anthony back to him.
[Or: the war has torn Cap and Havers apart but they continue their love story through letters: reminiscing of home and the moments they shared. Their relationship develops over the years, until the war finally ends and they're able to get the happy ending that they dreamed of.]

Summary
Thomas has always been prone to bouts of melancholy, since he was a child. Unfortunately, that particular problem stays with him even in death. What’s worse, there’s the addition of physical pain from the blasted bullet wound.
Two hundred years of pain later, he gets some help.
Basically, I’m convinced that Thomas has depression and I want to write some hurt/comfort about it.

Summary
When she reached the bottom she yelled, “Thomas, stop!”
He paused on the landing but his recitation didn’t stop. Couldn’t. Impossible. Whenever he wasn’t pouring out odes of longing his heart was filling with them until they became a flood. The best he could do was skip to the poem’s end, re-announcing the thesis of his afterlife since the day she’d arrived, “I worship thee in love, my Alison!”
She turned, meeting his blunt fervor with half the syllables, half the decibels, and even blunter force, “No you don’t, Thomas.”
[After Episode 2 of Series 2 ("About Last Night") Alison finally loses her temper with Thomas, and they take a walk to try to figure out how to function as friends.]
