Jeongin knows there’s no arguing against it. If he wants a spot on the line-up of JYPE’s upcoming boy group, it’s going to be as its leader. The company will accept nothing less.
Or: in a universe where Stray Kids were born in reverse order, Jeongin is appointed as their leader, tasked with the responsibility of making sure all of his members make it to debut. “Do you want to talk about it?” Felix asks quietly, reaching out to hold Hyunjin’s hand.
Hyunjin squeezes Felix’s fingers. “There’s not much to talk about, really.”
“Did they deserve it?”
“I wouldn’t have done it if I felt like they didn’t,” Hyunjin murmurs.
Felix makes an affirmative noise, resting his head on Hyunjin’s shoulder. “Is Changbin safer now?”
“Yes,” Hyunjin lies. “He’s safer.”
Felix wraps himself around Hyunjin’s arm and squeezes. “Then that’s all that matters. As long as Changbin-hyung is safe, there’s nothing for you to worry about.”
Hyunjin doesn’t know if he can viably agree, so he stays quiet and lets himself be held, trying to convince himself that Felix is right. If Hyunjin can try to justify that Changbin is safer because of what he’s done, then it’s fine.
Everything will be fine.

Hyunjin’s throat tightened. His fingers gripped his notebook so hard that the edges bent. He considered turning back, pretending he hadn’t seen them, but the sound of a chair scraping against the floor cut through the deafening silence.
“Hyunjin-ah.” Chan, the student council president, gestured at the vacant chair, “Take a seat.”
