So much time had past since Matt asked her that. Since that idiotic Accords thing was passed, briefly screwing over New Yorker's lives. Since Nelson, Murdock, & Page was established. Since Fisk was arrested, again. Since Midland Circle caved in.
Karen decided to give him a shot, and for a while they stumbled blindly through life together, the awkward, emotional mess that they were. It was a beautiful, heartfelt moment they had.All things considered, it took a little longer than usual for the world to start falling apart.

Karen grimaced. She found herself locked in a mental precipice; she felt the strong urge to say something--anything--that conveyed the way that she felt. Anything to break up the silence between them. To clarify this swirling mess that connected them.
She made a decision, stepping onto the ledge with Matt, her blue gaze even with his hazel.
"It matters," she stated in kind.
They could build something new out of their broken pieces. It was a dangerous thought, but Karen wasn't one for backing down when she wanted something.

[Time passes oddly. Between one second and the next, Sokka has the Fire Lord pinned to the wall with his hands around the bastard’s throat. Golden eyes (one gold eye, his mind whispers) widen in shock.
“Sokka?” he chokes out. And then he smiles.
What the fuck?
“Sokka, I—”
Sokka slams his head against the wall, once, twice, and the smile wipes off his face. Good.
“What,” Sokka bites out, “have you done to my sister?”]

An injury leaves Sokka with amnesia. His last memory is of the failed invasion, of leaving his father behind in enemy territory on the Day of Black Sun. Of hopelessness. Rage.

Summary
Zuko spent three years yearning for these halls. Maybe he had forgotten how oppressive they had felt. He’d realized, eventually, that he had been willing to forget a lot about life at the palace when he was banished. He hadn’t even realized that he’d been playing memories of his mother when he allowed himself to miss home. He hadn’t realized that he’d been missing a home that no longer existed.
A year after the end of the 100 Year War, Zuko is still struggling to cope with his past. The stress of being Fire Lord weighs heavily on him until he reaches a breaking point and realizes that he can't heal the world while his own wounds are still bleeding.
(or, my take on the Search, because I really do not care for the comics.)

zuko knows what it feels like to be the non-prodigal child -- knows how fathers treat the less gifted child. on the airship, he keeps to sokka’s side like a shadow, never mind that he’s shaking like a leaf from exhaustion and hakoda is twice his size. zuko came too close to losing sokka during the gondola fight, he’s not going to -- wait, when did he start to care that much?
