Summary
Maybe that made it worse, how much he was missing Charles and knowing that he was just right down the hall, asleep in their bed. Erik could join him if it wasn’t for the fear of being rejected and told to leave. It was that which caused him to not move.
At any point in his life, Erik hadn’t slept much during the nights but with Charles by his side, the two cuddled up together, he had been doing so much better. But now, Erik was staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night, thinking about their conversation earlier that morning.

“Bless you, Alex,” Charles says calmly, handing the boy a tissue as the kitchen table wobbles and collapses, taking everyone’s dinner plates down with it. Darwin's jacket smoulders quietly, smoke rising from its singed sleeve until he looks down and pats at it, smothering the embers.
“Aw man, I was looking forward to that lasagne,” Sean nudges the shattered glass dish with his foot. “Can’t you get sick when it’s the Professor's turn to cook?”

Wet hair plastered to his forehead, Charles stares up at him through heavy-lidded eyes. “You care about me, don’t you, Erik?” he says, affection evident in his voice.
Erik blinks, doing his best to ignore how warm he is around the ears. “Of course. You’re all I’ve got.”
Charles grins, happily squirming around a little on the bed. “Come closer. I’ve got to tell you something.” He beckons Erik closer. Once Erik leans in, Charles tells him in a slurred whisper, “I love you.”
Erik freezes. A flurry of indecipherable thoughts float through his head. Once he remembers how to form words again, he says quietly, “You’re drunk, Charles.”
