It starts out small, as all things do.
Mr. Creel asks Will to stay after class one day.
It’s not too weird, a teacher asking a student to stay after class for a minute or two. Still, the party gives him worried looks, and he returns them with his own. He doesn’t know what he did, or if he’s in trouble.
Mr. Creel must see this, because he smiles reassuringly. “You’re not in trouble, William. Don’t worry.” He says, placatingly.
It doesn’t do much to calm Will’s nerves. He’s not the biggest fan of Mr. Creel already, as bad as he feels about it, and he hates being called William. It reminds him of his dad, and he never likes thinking about him.
Regardless, he nods.
