Ron poured sauce over the pasta with a theatrical flourish. “Long day?”
“Mm.” Harry twirled a fork through the pasta, suddenly aware of Hermione watching him.
Not in a creepy way- not obviously. Just… closely.
Like she was assessing him.
Or maybe that was just Hermione. She looked at everyone like that.
“You need to keep your blood sugar stable,” she sighed, “Especially when you’re working late.”
Ron let out a quiet laugh, setting the saucepot aside and finally sitting down. His knee brushed Harry’s under the table- not on purpose, not really- but he didn’t move it either.
Harry didn’t notice.

Summary
Harry Potter was forty years old, a father of three, and on top of the world... only to wake up one morning in his childhood cupboard - though, not exactly in his own childhood. Trapped in an alternate universe where his parents are alive, he was abandoned to the Dursleys anyway, and everyone's calling his brother "The Boy Who Lived" (despite all evidence to the contrary), Harry just wants to escape the drama and figure out how to go home. But between a spoiled bully for a father, a brother raised to think he's the messiah, a sister who hates him, a mother who's suspicious of him, and the downright weird divergences this timeline has taken, that's easier said then done.
Oh, and Voldemort's there too.

When Harry Potter wakes the morning of June 17, 1996, he doesn't expect any of what happens in the next 24ish hours. Not the nightmare that night, not the battle in supposedly the most secure place in Britain, not the death of his closest parental figure, and certainly he was not expecting to awaken a creature inheritance. But, maybe the thing he expected the least was to die himself, and wake to a group of people who are willing to kill for him. Honestly, he just wants to go back to sleep.
Or what happens if Harry inherits early and gives a Soulscream at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.
