Summary
It has been roughly 1,000 years since machines overwhelmed planet Earth and laid most of it to waste. Now, they roam the lands alongside beasts and various tribes, though the millennia-old problem is rising again, along with disputes between the latter two groups.
While some tribes revere the beasts among them —putting them on a pedestal based on appearance or placing them as front-line warriors—others have grown in their hatred and kill shifters on sight.
Amidst all this, Aloy must find her way to GAIA, while simultaneously becoming entangled in conflicts born long before her own birth.

The smartest part of him still that blustering navy man taking command of the cooking to hide how terrified he was of them. Fear that was faint, but still sour, on the still air. “I’ve seen what you do to idiots who pick fights with us. You werewolves aren’t that fragile.”
“We ain’t that strong, neither,” Arthur told him.
The Pinkertons have been lost in the snow, and the law has bigger game on its mind. The O'Driscolls aren't as easy to lose.
