She just had to check on him, quickly and from afar, in and out, then she would leave, without risking to stir up bad memories. Maybe this would be the last time she would come close to him, and she would gladly waste the opportunity to talk to ensure his peace of mind. Leaving him alone would be the final testament of her respect, her own apology.
She hadn’t planned to intrude, to be noticed. She had no words to offer him.

Summary
“Stop being stubborn, you stupid fish.” Aaron bends down to wrap his arm around the mermaid’s back and before he can try to get a hold of his tail, the merman shoves at him with a refusing sound. Aaron swats his hands away and the mermaid hits him back. “Hey.” Aaron scolds before trying to pick him up again, only for webbed fingers to smack him a second time. Aaron slaps him back and the situation is absurd enough that he almost wants to laugh. He’s getting himself into a cat-fight with a fucking mermaid.
“Hey.” Aaron says again, louder and jabbing a finger into the merman’s face. “I am not going to leave you out here stranded and bleeding out.” The mermaid’s eyes are dazzling green, narrowed and unamused by Aaron’s reprimand, but they do glance downwards towards his injured tail. “So you’re going to let me help you. Yes?”

Summary
Sokka had only had to get Zuko and Suki on working together terms in this prison, not so hard! Yet here he was, Zuko and Suki were patching things together oddly well, Jet was seemingly back from the dead, and a random firebender had just dropped himself into Sokka’s plans rather rudely. He had mere hours to work out a plan and get everyone off this cursed volcano. No one had ever escaped before and here he was all of 15 years old and thinking himself better than every person in this place. What could he see that they couldn’t? Not a Tui and La blessed thing and he was admitting it now. He was going to be the reason Suki and Jet stayed, and possibly worst of all the reason Zuko was just handed back to the Fire Nation on a golden platter.
