Summary
The candlelight made Imogene’s brown eyes shine with a gold hue, her other eyes focusing upward at Maeve, cloudy but having a striking familiarity in the way they looked. They reminded her of the battle paint from her planet, a show of defiance against their enemies.
“Come here sweetheart,” she said, curling her finger. Imogene shuffled closer, pressing soft kisses to her clothed thighs. Maeve reached out to play with her hair, tugging gently to tip her head one way and then another. She smiled as Imogene let out a soft mewl. “Come closer, let me see you.”

“Swear your fealty to me,” she breathed, watching her first boot be discarded to the side, his hands slow with the laces of her other. He pressed soft kisses to her socked ankle as the other boot came off. She pressed her foot to his jaw, tipping his head upwards so he would look at her. “We are at an altar, you should make a prayer.”
The candlelight made his eye glow, peering at her with such a softness, fingers curling into her socks to pull those down too. “My lady, do you doubt my devotion to the von Valancius dynasty?” His lips were rosy from her biting.
She shook her head, her curls springing free from their braids. “No, Werserian, I have never doubted your loyalty to the dynasty. I want you to swear your fealty to me.”

Summary
The silence was filled only by the voidship’s humming and his footsteps as he made his way through. Sparring with the Lord Captain was something that never made any of his lists, or itineraries for the day. Emperor above it wasn’t going to make it into his report.
And somehow, it was the closest to an understanding they had ever gotten.
Her hair smelled like citrus, he realized as he made the trek back to his room. He had never been quite close enough to her to be able to smell it, but now that he had it plagued his every thought.

Summary
“You,” she snarled, cocking her leg up and then kicking the body of the dummy away. He watched her launch that into a wall as well, eyes snapping back to her face as she glared at him. “Was all of that a set up?” She stomped over to him, dragging the training sword behind her. It let out a shriek against the metal flooring, a few sparks flying from the abuse.
The metal was heavy, dull, she would have to hack at him to kill him, and it would cost precious time. It would be an ineffective way to kill him as he would heal from it with each of her swings.
She hauled the sword up when she reached him, throwing her arms forward to slice at his throat, stopping herself at the last moment, holding the blade there, staring at him through narrowed eyes.
He swallowed, his head leaning back slightly. Both to get away from her blade and give her better access to his neck. “I gave you a warning. You would have gotten no such luxury from him.”

Summary
She walked over to him, her hips swaying in the ever familiar way, a fire burning in her eyes. The air grew warmer around them, stifling. There was sweat starting to pool in his jacket collar. “I did not ask for my part to play in this world,” she said after a moment, standing close to him, peering upwards through her lashes and her damp hair. “And neither did you.”
She had the most beautiful face, and her cheeks were flushed from the alcohol. He found himself staring into her eyes, so dark blue they almost looked black. One moment of softness and clarity did very little to soften her feelings for him, it seemed.“Yet I accept my role, and I play it well,” he responded.
Her eyes moved up and down his form, lips pressed into a thin line. He took a drink to avoid watching her.
“Yes,” she hissed through her lips. “You do.” There was no respect in her words. “Surprising no one has thanked you for it yet.”
