Summary
Grace and Rocky discover that the text to speech translator for Rocky's voice has been translating Rocky's pronouns wrong. A conversation about gender, something hard for Rocky to understand, ensues.
This is a rewrite of my book fic, "He Is We," based on my additional movie head canon that Grace's voice translator for Rocky is a "smart" translator. (I believe that head canon is the only way to make some of Rocky's lines in the movie make sense.) The original fic was based on a conversation with Andy Weir in the main PHM discord server, where he said he'd once started writing a short story where a translator used "she" for the Eridian high status pronoun, and "he" for the lower status pronoun. Just like the book fic, this fic is a possible origin story for why a translator would make that decision.

Summary
Ryland Grace's thoughts after finding out he's on a suicide mission. This fic was inspired by the realization that, while the movie shows Grace spending days having a total breakdown, the book just skips over the first few days after he finds out he's going to die, so we don't ever get to see his extended reaction. I wanted to write about what that might have looked like for book Grace.

Summary
Sometimes, when two Eridians have a strong connection, they swap bodies. This is typically taken as a sign that they are supposed to mate. Rocky has swapped bodies with Adrian many times, but he never thought he’d swap with an alien.
Swapping will improve communication dramatically, giving them more access to each other’s languages, so this development is really good for the mission.
Unfortunately, the alien isn’t taking this very well.

The more that I think about it, the more I believe in the small possibility that my unfertilized eggs may be safe for Grace to consume. It’s at least worth trying, I resolve, as I watch him cry himself to sleep for the fourth consecutive cycle. His stomach is constricting, growling loudly. He’s been unable to keep the coma slurry from resurfacing once again.
I can detect his body shutting down. I decide I can't allow this to continue. I won't allow myself to sit by and watch idly as he dies in front of me, like so many others have before him.
Unfortunately, there is only one method that I can use to procure Eridian eggs for Grace's consumption.
